Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 5th UNI Americas Conference will have two moments: a virtual meeting on December 3 and 4, to comply with the statutes of our organization, and a political moment where we will meet in person once the health and economic crisis is over, and without the restrictions that we have today.

Under the theme "Defend our rights, build our future!" The Conference will be organized around four main sessions:

DEFEND OUR ORGANIZING AND CAPACITY BUILDING RIGHTS STRATEGIC PLAN 2020-2024.

Continuing along the line of work approved in the Medellin Conference in 2016, in this session we will adopt the guidelines for the 2020-2024 Work Plan:

We shall work closely with UNI sectors and regional organizations to ensure the voice and rights of Youth in global and regional companies.

We shall promote the recognition and strengthening of trade unions through the active participation of Youth, capacity building, and the use of new communication tools.

Together with regional organizations, we will defend the right of collective bargaining as a means to ensure social and economic sustainability.

DEFEND OUR RIGHTS TO INCREASE THE REPRESENTATION OF YOUTH.

Today it is necessary to increase the visibility of young trade unionists in international work, and for UNI Americas meetings to benefit from their perspectives and contributions. Active working youth is key for the empowerment and revitalization of the union movement.

This is why UNI Americas proposes to have at least 10% youth participation in all areas.

DEFEND OUR RIGHTS IN THE NEW WORLD OF WORK.

The emergence of new jobs in the framework of an accelerated process of technological transformations and deep energy transitions, implies great changes in the processes and ways of organizing work and production that directly affect young people.

UNI and the trade union organizations of different countries shall uphold the rights of workers and the right to disconnect as key elements in the discussion of telework.

DEFEND OUR RIGHTS WITH MORE EQUALITY FOR ALL.

Our continent is the most unequal region in the world, where some governments with neoliberal policies ignore or set aside the social and human dimensions, there is xenophobia, racism, discrimination and gender inequality. Today it is imperative for youth to promote respect, protection and the realization of all human rights and fundamental freedoms in all areas of society.
